SolarCity opened a warehouse in Modesto last month and plans to hire 175 additional employees soon in Modesto and Stockton. Solar panel installers will be among those hired. SOLARCITY

SolarCity, a residential solar energy provider, will hold hiring fairs in Modesto and Stockton this month to find 175 full-time sales representatives and solar panel installers.

The company opened a warehouse last month in southwest Modesto.

“Now it’s time to fill that up with people who need jobs,” said Brady Anderson, SolarCity’s regional sales director. “We’re giving everyone an opportunity to apply.”

Anderson said the Modesto facility began hiring in September and already has hired about 42 salespeople, plus 45 technicians and installers. The company’s Stockton facility opened two years ago and has about 150 workers.

The company has 8,500 employees in 15 states, and it’s growing.

The first hiring fair will be 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 at SolarCity’s Modesto operations center, 821 Oates Court, Suite 300.

The Stockton hiring fair will be 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 28 at the University of the Pacific, 3601 Pacific Ave.

Anderson said his company will be ready to handle more than 1,000 applicants. There will be a company presentation at both events and the opportunity to talk with company officials.

Job seekers should bring their résumés. Anderson said those who stand out will be scheduled to come back for interviews.

“We prefer people with construction experience” for the more than 120 technicians and installers who will be hired, Anderson said. People who have worked on roofs and those with electrical skills also are encouraged to apply.

Anderson said the company provides all its own training, so work experience is not required.

For the more than 50 open sales positions, “we are looking for seasoned pros, but we are willing to train on the job,” Anderson said.

Most of those salespeople will work out of Best Buy and Home Depot stores in Modesto, Ceres, Turlock, Riverbank, Stockton and Tracy.

All SolarCity employees must be at least 18, able to speak English and eligible to work in the United States. Clean driving records are required, and no criminal convictions are allowed.

All openings are for full-time employees, and the company offers medical, dental and vision benefits.

SolarCity would not reveal information about how much it pays, but Anderson said it is more than minimum wage.

While it is not required, those planning to attend the hiring fairs are asked to preregister online at http://bit.ly/1wbwSm8.
