If you’ve had a McDonald’s peach smoothie lately, you can thank a central San Joaquin Valley farmer.
The Smittcamp family, operators of several food businesses, including Wawona Frozen Foods and Wawona Packing, is supplying the major fast food chain with peaches for their line of summer smoothies.
The fruit smoothies promotion was launched earlier this summer. The chilled peach drink is available in the Fresno area until Sept. 15.
McDonald’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hary said the company selected Wawona because of its quality.
“We’re pleased to offer our California customers delicious summer beverages made with high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients blended right in our kitchens,” Hary said. “Offering our customers local ingredients and supporting local farmers is important to McDonald’s.”
Along with peach smoothies, McDonald’s has mango pineapple, strawberry orange mango and strawberry banana flavors available.
Wawona currently farms more than 8,000 acres in the Valley and packs more than seven-million cartons of tree fruit and citrus annually.
