Amazon announces 200 new jobs in Patterson

A large crowd of job seekers showed up at the Amazon Fulfillment Center here Tuesday to take part in a one-day hiring event. And for good reason: the company announced on Tuesday that it is adding 200 jobs, the biggest expansion for the center since it opened in 2013.

“These are newly created jobs,” said Ashley Robinson, a spokeswoman for Amazon. Earlier this month, Amazon announced it was hiring 700 people at its newly expanded distribution center in Tracy. At that time, the company did not make any announcements about Patterson.

That changed Tuesday. Robinson said the new jobs are full-time positions for associates who will “pick, pack and ship” Amazon products.

“We also are hiring more people on top of the 700 already announced in Tracy,” she said.

Patterson’s 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center handles mainly larger items, with Tracy focused on smaller-sized products.

At both sites, employees work with Amazon’s robotics to fill orders and get them out to customers. “It’s cutting-edge technology,” Robinson said.

Tuesday’s one-day hiring event at the center promised on-site hiring. But some applicants said representatives took their information but did not conduct interviews. Robinson said the company will be hiring for several days.
